One

The New Year is here. This blog is not a resolution, but hopefully a meaningful way that I have chosen to explore and engage the life that I am living.

The life that I am living is that of a military wife with a come-and-go husband for the next year or so. Out of the next 12 months, Dan and I will be apart for at least 8 of them - he in Valcartier, QC, Jacksonville, FL and Afghanistan- I in Edmonton, Edmonton, Edmonton.

There are complexities to this type of life that I have yet to identify, let alone figure out. I have figured out, however, that I process my life best when I can write through it, so despite my hesitations in starting a blog (blogs in general no longer seem trendy or have the following they once had), I am making a new start.

As best as I can tell, this will be the place to read about updates and events in our lives over the next year or so but it's inevitable that everything else in life will also sneak in here and most likely take over. I'm ok with that - life is more than the events that happen to us.

Dan and I came up with the title together. It's subtle and clever if you know us and I am quite happy with it. We chose 'green wife' to describe my inexperience in being a military wife with a traveling husband and 'blue husband' to represent Dan's being in the Air Force. Once we'd decided on it, we were pleased to discover that the whole thing embodied more of us as individuals than we planned - I am drawn to plants and trees while Dan loves the water.

Dan left today for 5 weeks and I feel inexpressibly empty. I had more that I wanted to say, including how wonderful it is to love someone enough to miss them this much, but there are practical things to do today to get ready for school tomorrow.

So begins the journey. (I love you, my dear)
